The 49ers placed Kendricks (toe) on injured reserve Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Kendricks is dealing with a toe injury picked up during Sunday's preseason contest against the Chargers, and which coach Kyle Shanahan said would likely sideline him for at least a month. However, the timing of Kendricks' placement on IR makes him ineligible to return this season, unless he reaches an injury settlement and parts ways with the 49ers.

Kendricks didn't re-enter Sunday's preseason contest after picking up the injury in the first half. It is likely the 30-year-old will miss at least one regular season game as he rehabs. The 49ers currently have injuries to Kendricks, Dre Greenlaw (blister), Azeez Al-Shaair (knee) and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (concussion) -- their top four outside linebackers.

Kendricks signed with Seattle's practice squad Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Kendricks believes that he's healthy after tearing his ACL in December, and he'll try to work his way up to the main roster for a Seahawks team for which he played in 2018 and 2019.

Kendricks sustained a torn ACL in the season finale, so he's already been ruled out for playoffs. The Seahawks took their time placing him on IR, but now they need an open roster spot for offensive tackle Chad Wheeler. It's unclear whether Kendricks will be ready for the 2020 season. He'll be an unrestricted free agent in March, but first, he's set to be sentenced for his insider trading case in February, although this date has been moved back multiple times.
