• Tyron Smith: Calls it a career

  Smith (neck) announced Tuesday that he has decided to retire from the NFL as a member of the Cowboys, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Smith will sign a one-day contract with Dallas to retire as a member of the organization with which he spent the first 13 years of his NFL career before his single-season stint with the Jets in 2024. Now retiring with five All-Pros and eight Pro Bowls to his name, Smith consistently ranked as one of the league's top options at left tackle since being selected in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Longtime teammate Zack Martin also announced his retirement this offseason.

  The Jets placed Smith (neck) on injured reserve Saturday, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports. Smith suffered a neck injury in Week 10 against the Cardinals, and he has missed the Jets' last two games as a result. He'll be forced to miss the next four games and is eligible to return for Week 17 against the Bills, though Rich Cimini of ESPN.com posits that Smith is likely done for the rest of the 2024 regular season. Smith signed a one-year contract with the Jets in March after spending the first 13 years of his career with the Cowboys, who selected him in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

Smith's absence Sunday comes as no surprise, as the 33-year-old offensive lineman was unable to practice all week after sustaining a neck injury in the Jets' Week 10 loss to the Cardinals. Expect 2024 first-round pick Olu Fashanu to protect Aaron Rodgers' blindside in Week 11 while Smith is sidelined.

  Smith (neck) did not participate at practice Wednesday. Per Connor Hughes of SNY.tv, coach Jeff Ulbrich said Wednesday that Smith is getting additional imaging done to assess the neck injury he sustained in Week 10 at Arizona. If he can't return to practice Thursday or Friday, he likely won't be able to play Sunday against the Colts.
