San Francisco elevated Spence from its practice squad Saturday for Week 3. Spence appeared in just one game in 2021, logging one tackle in five defensive snaps. He will probably work in a limited reserve role Sunday as long as Javon Kinlaw and Kevin Givens remain healthy.

Spence left Thursday's preseason game against the Texans to be evaluated for a concussion, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports. Spence left the game in the fourth quarter, so he is unlikely to return to action. He joined the 49ers as a depth option after Maurice Hurst (biceps) landed on injured reserve Aug. 1.

Spence was signed to Washington's active roster Thursday. Spence provides the team with some much-needed help at defensive tackle with Jonathan Allen, Matthew Ioannidis and Tim Settle all hitting the reserve/COVID-19 list this week. After not appearing in any games this season, it's possible that the 30-year-old may be thrust into a starting role in Week 15 against the Eagles.

The Patriots signed Spence to the active roster Saturday, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports. Spence was elevated from the practice squad last week, and now he's an honest member of the 53-man roster. The Patriots needed the depth at nose tackle, as both Byron Cowart (back) and Adam Butler (shoulder) are questionable for Sunday's game against the Chargers.

Spence was released by the Eagles on Monday, Les Bowen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Spence's stint in Philly ends after seven games in which he recorded seven tackles through six contests. The veteran defensive tackle has been on four different teams over the past four seasons, but his experience alone could get him in with a team needing to bolster their defensive line.
