Collins announced his retirement from the NFL on Friday, Daniel Chavkin of SI.com reports. "It hasn't hit me yet, but I'm officially retired," Collins said in announcing his retirement. The 33-year-old played 10 seasons in the league, tallying a career-best 115 tackles in 2014 for the Patriots and peaking with seven sacks in 2019 in his return to New England. Collins also made one All-Pro team and one Pro Bowl, both in 2015. He spent most of last year on the Patriots' practice squad.

Collins was signed by the Patriots on Monday, Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald reports. It's unclear whether Collins will report to the practice or the active roster, but the linebacker is returning for a fourth stint with the Patriots. Collins appeared in 10 games with New England last year, registering 20 tackles, including a sack, while also intercepting a pass and deflecting three others.

Collins (ankle) was a limited participant at Thursday's practice. The linebacker popped up on the Patriots' injury report Wednesday with an ankle issue, but he was able to practice in a limited capacity Thursday. Collins will now enter the Patriots' wild-card game against the Bills with a questionable designation, and if he can't play, Josh Uche would likely step into a larger role.

Collins (ankle) was spotted practicing Wednesday, Zack Cox of NESN.com reports. With the linebacker returning to practice for the first time since going on IR prior to the team's Week 10 matchup, the Patriots have a 21-day window to restore him to their active roster. Otherwise, he will be forced to miss the remainder of the season. Collins has played a minor role in his five games since joining the Patriots, recording seven tackles, a sack and an interception.

Collins didn't participate at Wednesday's practice due to an ankle injury, Zack Cox of NESN.com reports. Collins apparently picked up the injury during Sunday's win over the Panthers while totaling two tackles and an interception in 16 defensive snaps. The 32-year-old will likely need to practice in some capacity Thursday or Friday to have a chance of suiting up this weekend versus Cleveland.
