Richards was released by the Patriots on Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports. Richards joined the Patriots in early October and exclusively played special teams in his three games with the team. The team signed Justin Bethel to take his place on the 53-man roster, and he's likely to fill a similar role.

Richards inked a deal with the Raiders on Friday. Richards spent three seasons with the Patriots before being traded to the Falcons ahead of the 2018 season. He started 12 games and appeared in 15 in Atlanta, while recording a career-high 37 (15 solo) tackles and three passes defended in the process. He will now look to earn a regular role in the Raiders' secondary.

The Patriots are trading Richards to the Falcons, Jim McBride of The Boston Globe reports. A 2015 second-round pick, Richards has just seven NFL starts to his name and seemed to be on the roster bubble this preseason. He'll likely get most of his playing time on special teams in Atlanta.

Richards (knee) will be active for Saturday's game against the Jets. Richards will likely see reps on special teams with usual starting safeties Patrick Chung and Devin McCourty both healthy.

Richards (knee) is questionable to play Monday night against Baltimore. While Richards was unable to play last week because of an injured knee, he managed to participate in every practice this week -- albeit in a limited fashion. However, even if he's ultimately ruled out, his absence will likely have a minimal impact on the outcome of the game.
