• Sam Ficken: Joins Detroit's practice squad

  Ficken has landed on the Lions' practice squad. Ficken started the season in Tennessee but subsequently landed on its injured reserve with a groin injury. Both parties eventually reached an injury settlement and he was waived from IR. He tried out with Jacksonville prior to landing in Detroit, so his groin issue is seemingly behind him. He will now look to make an impression on the practice squad while waiting for an opportunity to get called up.

  The Jaguars worked out Ficken on Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports. Ficken spent the entire 2021 campaign on the Titans' IR due to a groin injury after appearing in 24 games over the prior two seasons with the Jets. During that stretch, he made 32 of 42 field-goal attempts and 35 of 41 extra-point tries.

  The Titans placed Ficken (groin) on injured reserve Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Ficken made a sudden appearance on Tennessee's injury report Friday as a limited participant due to a groin injury. Just one day later, the team has opted to place a second kicker on IR -- Tucker McCann (undisclosed) also is there -- and signed Michael Badgley from the practice squad to handle kicking duties Week 1. Ficken will spend at least the first three games of the season away from the field.

  Ficken (groin) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports. Ficken was a late addition to the injury report following a limited practice session Friday. With alternative kicking option Tucker McCann (undisclosed) on IR, Tennessee has added Michael Badgley to the practice squad to serve as insurance in case Ficken's injury sidelines him for Week 1.

  Ficken remains the only kicker on the Titans' roster after Tucker McCann was waived Monday due to an injury suffered in the team's preseason opener, Jim Wyatt of TennesseeTitans.com reports. Ficken was claimed off waivers from the Jets on Aug. 1, and the 28-year-old kicker now finds himself without competition as the season quickly approaches. Through two weeks of the preseason, the Penn State product is 3-for-3 on field goals and 6-for-6 on PATs. Ficken has impressed in practice as well, hitting 48 of 53 field goals since joining the team. The 6-foot-1, 192-pounder may have value in fantasy as he finds himself as the current starter for a team that projects to be able to move the ball effectively on offense.
