• Falcons' Daren Bates: Officially designated to return

  Bates (groin) was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday. Wednesday's transaction was expected after coach Arthur Smith revealed Bates would be back at practice. The 31-year-old has been sidelined for each of the last four games but will be eligible to suit up as early as Sunday against the 49ers.

  Bates (shoulder) was a limited participant in Tuesday's practice, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports. Bates put in three full practices and did not take an injury designation into Week 17's win over the Texans, but there has been no word whether the Titans are taking it easy with the 29-year-old or if perhaps he reinjured the shoulder. His playing 25 snaps between defense and special teams in the contest suggests it's probably the former, however. The Auburn product's practice participation the rest of the week should be telling.

  Bates (shoulder) has been declared out for Sunday's game against the Raiders, Erik Bacharach of The Tennessean reports. Bates was unable to practice this week and will miss his first game of the year. The 29-year-old has played just six defensive snaps all season, so the Titans will miss him most on special teams.

Bates played 26 snaps on special teams during last Thursday's loss to the Jaguars, and he's apparently still feeling the impact of an ankle injury. The 28-year-old will need to progress to a limited participant to have a chance of suiting up in Week 4.

  Bates (knee) is ready to go for Monday's contest against the Colts, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports. After a healthy week of practice, Bates was a late addition to the injury report Saturday. It looks like the team was just being cautious with his designation, as he is suiting up for Week 6. Look for him to resume his role providing depth at linebacker.
