The Texans released Pierre-Louis on Tuesday, Mark Lane of USA Today reports. Pierre-Louis appeared in nine games with Houston last season, in which span he mostly contributed on special teams. The 30-year-old veteran could be a candidate to reunite with the Texans later during the 2022 season, after the team has opened up more roster spots.

Pierre-Louis (hamstring) was officially placed on injured reserve Thursday. Pierre-Louis was inactive for Week 1 due to the hamstring injury and will now be sidelined for at least the next three games. Offensive lineman Charlie Heck (undisclosed) was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list in a corresponding move.

Pierre-Louis started 11 of his 13 games in 2020, recording 56 tackles (36 solo), two pass defenses, one sack and one forced fumble. Pierre-Louis opened the year in a three-down role, piling up 20 tackles on 142 snaps over the first two weeks of the season. He kept his job in Washington's base defense for most of the year, but it was Cole Holcomb who got most of the nickel work alongside Jon Bostic in the second half of the season. Among the three, only Pierre-Louis is scheduled for free agency during the upcoming offseason. Regardless of where he signs, the 29-year-old journeyman linebacker isn't likely to relive his brief moment of IDP relevance.

Pierre-Louis (ankle) was a limited practice participant Friday and is tagged as questionable for Sunday's contest versus Carolina, John Keim of ESPN.com reports. The linebacker picked up the ankle injury during Week 14's matchup against San Francisco and missed last week's game against Seattle. After logging three limited practice sessions this week, he appears to have a fair shot of returning Sunday. If he's able to suit up, Pierre-Louis should return to his regular starting role at weakside linebacker.

Pierre-Louis (shoulder) was a full participant during Thursday's practice, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports. Pierre-Louis was limited during Wednesday's practice, but the fact that he was upgraded so quickly is evidence that the team may have been managing his practice reps during the week. Now appearing fully healthy, the veteran will assume his usual starting role at weakside linebacker for Week 7 against the Cowboys.
