Rypien's role for Week 1 shouldn't come as a surprise, as he just joined the Vikings a little over a week ago, and Mullens already had the backup quarterback job secured. The Boise State product will only be able to enter the game if Sam Darnold and Nick Mullens both are injured and unable to play.

Rypien, who was released earlier this week by the Bears, will move into a depth role with Minnesota in the wake of Jaren Hall having been waived by the team.
