Carson (neck) is retiring from the NFL, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Carson reportedly will be released with a failed physical designation before he officially retires. He started 48 of 49 games in his five seasons with Seattle, averaging 4.6 YPC and 71.5 rushing yards per game. A serious neck injury ended his 2021 campaign after four appearances, and Carson now retires with 3,502 career rushing yards, 804 receiving yards and 31 total TDs.

Carson (neck) wasn't present at the first day of mandatory minicamp Tuesday, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports. Carson is recovering from November neck surgery and wasn't expected to be on the field for the OTAs or minicamp. Head coach Pete Carroll has stated that the team won't know whether Carson will be medically cleared until he handles contact, which won't be until training camp. Fantasy managers should avoid Carson outside of deeper leagues. His injury is cause for plenty of concern and the crowded running back room will limit his upside if he's ultimately cleared.

Head coach Pete Carroll didn't provide a timeline for Carson's (neck) return to full speed, Gregg Bell of The News Tribune reports. "We won't know for some time here, and we can't predict it yet. So there is a little bit of uncertainty that we are waiting on," Carroll said. The Seahawks' decision to draft running back Kenneth Walker in the second round (41st overall) of the NFL Draft after already signing Rashaad Penny to a one-year deal should make us more wary of Carson's health than any of Carroll's press conference. Carson is still recovering from November neck surgery, and he wasn't guaranteed the starting role even before the draft. The 27-year-old simply can't match the explosiveness of Penny or Walker, so if he's able to make a return, his impact for fantasy is suspect.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Thursday that he has no new update on Carson, who had surgery on his neck in November, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports. Reports last fall/winter suggested Carson's neck injury could be career-threatening, and while the Seahawks haven't used those terms, Carroll did say there's not much the team can do for now besides wait and see what happens. They re-signed Rashaad Penny in March after his big finish to the 2021 campaign, potentially setting up a committee if Carson is able to play again. It doesn't sound like the 27-year-old running back will be cleared to practice anytime soon.

Head coach Pete Carroll said Monday that he expects Carson (neck) to be ready for training camp, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports. Carson played just four games this season before suffering a neck injury, which he attempted to return from before undergoing season-ending surgery in November. Carroll is notoriously optimistic about his player's injuries, and neck injuries tend to be tricky, so we should take his report with a grain of salt. If Carson does return for training camp, he may have to settle for a backup role to Rashaad Penny, who rushed for 671 yards (7.3 YPC) and six touchdowns over the final five games this season. It's worth noting that Carson will be 28 years old in September. The Seahawks would save $3.25 million against the salary cap if they cut him, as well.
