Houston cut Rountree from the practice squad Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Rountree is being replaced by fellow running back Gerrid Doaks on the practice squad. Last season Rountree handled a depth role in four appearances with the Chargers.

Rountree signed with the Texans' practice squad Wednesday. Rountree was unable to make Houston's 53-man roster out of training camp but ultimately was able to stay with the organization. The 24-year-old will add depth to the backfield while the Texans carry Dameon Pierce, Devin Singletary, Mike Boone and Dare Ogunbowale on the roster.

Rountree was waived by the Texans on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Rountree joined Houston on Aug. 18, just a few short days after being let go from the Chargers. The Missouri product is a candidate to ultimately end up on the Texans' practice squad, according to Wilson.

The Texans signed Rountree on Friday. Rountree, who logged 13 carries for 19 yards in four games with the Chargers last season, will give the Texans some added backfield depth behind Dameon Pierce and Devin Singletary. The 2021 sixth-rounder is now in a position to compete with Mike Boone, Dare Ogunbowale and Gerrid Doaks for slotting behind Houston's top duo.

The Chargers waived Rountree on Monday. With the 2021 sixth-rounder having been let go by the Chargers, the team's backfield is currently headed by Austin Ekeler, Joshua Kelley and Isaiah Spiller. Rountree, who recorded 13 carries for 19 yards in four games last season, will now look to catch on elsewhere as a depth RB option.
