Falcons' Kirk Cousins: Shut down by Seattle

Kirk Cousins completed 15 of 30 passes for 162 yards and two interceptions in Sunday's 37-9 loss to the Seahawks. The Atlanta Falcons were limited to just three field goals on the day, as Cousins simply couldn't get anything going. The absence of Drake London (knee) was noticeable, as tight end Kyle Pitts was the only Atlanta pass catcher to make much of an impact. Cousins has a 3:3 TD:INT in three starts since Michael Penix (knee) was lost for the season, but the veteran QB might have more success in Week 15 against the Buccaneers.

Falcons' Kirk Cousins: Throws for 234 in loss

Kirk Cousins completed 21 of 33 passes for 234 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Jets.Cousins had only 86 first-half passing yards but led a touchdown drive, capped by a one-yard Tyler Allgeier run, to tie the score at 7-7 with nine seconds left before halftime. Atlanta's first drive of the third quarter was also capped by a rushing score, this time on a five-yard Bijan Robinson run. Cousins then broke a 17-17 tie by connecting with David Sills for a nine-yard touchdown pass with 8:46 remaining in the fourth quarter, but the Jets scored the game's final 10 points to drop Atlanta to 4-8. Despite the slow start, Cousins ultimately exceeded 200 passing yards for the first time this season, but Atlanta's passing game won't offer much fantasy appeal in Week 14 against the Seahawks, especially if top wide receiver Drake London (knee) misses a third consecutive game.

Falcons' Kirk Cousins: First win as starter in 2025

Kirk Cousins completed 16 of 23 pass attempts for 199 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while gaining five yards on two carries in Sunday's 24-10 win over New Orleans.Cousins earned his first win of the 2025 season in his second start for the Atlanta Falcons after it was announced that starter Michael Penix (knee) will miss the remainder of the year. The 36-year-old Cousins experienced greater success compared to his spot-start in a loss to the Dolphins back in Week 8 and a pair of relief appearances that netted zero combined touchdowns. The highly-paid backup is unlikely to reach the elite levels of production we were used to seeing back in his heyday playing for Washington and Minnesota, but he proved on Sunday that he can still operate an NFL offense at a respectable level. Cousins will face another soft matchup against the Jets next Sunday, putting him on the map in deeper formats as a potential bye week or injury replacement.

Falcons' Kirk Cousins: Taking over for rest of season

The Atlanta Falcons announced Wednesday that Kirk Cousins will take over as their starting quarterback beginning with Sunday's game at New Orleans after a second opinion confirmed that Michael Penix (knee) will require season-ending surgery to address a partially torn left ACL, Terrin Waack of the team's official site reports.Cousins already looked to be in line to start at least four games after the Falcons relayed Monday that Penix would be headed to injured reserve, but now that the 25-year-old quarterback has been confirmed to need season-ending surgery, Cousins' run atop the depth chart will be extended. Per Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com, head coach Raheem Morris said Wednesday that Easton Stick will be signed to the 53-man roster to work as Cousins' backup, while Kyle Trask will replace Stick on the team's practice squad. Cousins hasn't been productive in limited opportunities this season, as the Falcons have scored just one touchdown across the 17 offensive drives he's led so far (not counting kneel-downs). Though he draws a favorable matchup for his second start of the season against the 2-8 Saints, Cousins will have to make do without one of his top pass-catching options in Drake London (knee), who is week-to-week with a PCL injury.

Falcons' Kirk Cousins: May start rest of season

Kirk Cousins could serve as Atlanta's starting quarterback for the remainder of the 2025 campaign with Michael Penix feared to have sustained a season-ending knee injury during Sunday's 30-27 overtime loss to the Panthers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.Cousins entered Sunday's loss in the third quarter, completing six of 14 passes for 48 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions while gaining two yards on one carry. Previously, Cousins started Week 8 against the Dolphins with Penix sidelined due to a bone bruise in his knee, completing 21 of 31 pass attempts for 173 yards and again being held without a touchdown or interception. Penix is reportedly seeking a second opinion on his knee injury, but if his season is indeed over, Cousins will take over under center beginning with Sunday's game in New Orleans . At this stage of his career, the 37-year-old signal-caller hasn't yet demonstrated enough upside to warrant consideration in single-quarterback formats, and his prospects will be further diminished if top wideout Drake London (knee) also misses time.

Falcons' Kirk Cousins: Handles emergency duty in OT loss

Kirk Cousins completed six of 14 passes for 48 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and added one rush for two yards in the Atlanta Falcons' 30-27 overtime loss to the Panthers on Sunday.Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports Michael Penix suffered a knee injury in the third quarter on a hit he took on an incomplete pass. That led to Cousins seeing his second dose of extended action this season, and although his final line underscores the fact he was relatively ineffective, he did manage to lead Atlanta to two field goals, including the game-tying kick with 16 seconds remaining in regulation. If Penix ultimately is unable to suit up for next Sunday's road divisional clash against the Saints, Cousins would be in line to draw his second start of the season.

Falcons' Kirk Cousins: Returning to backup role

Kirk Cousins will move back to the No. 2 QB role Sunday at New England with Michael Penix (knee) not receiving a designation for that contestCousins earned a spot start for Penix this past Sunday against the Dolphins due to the latter's bone bruise in his knee, but the former didn't fare well, completing 21 of 31 passes for 173 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions and rushing twice for two yards in a 34-10 loss. This week, Penix followed up limited practices Wednesday and Thursday with a full session Friday, thereby clearing him to return to action. Cousins likely won't see the field Sunday, barring an injury setback to Penix or a garbage-time appearance.

Falcons' Kirk Cousins: Lackluster showing in spot start

Kirk Cousins completed 21 of 31 passes for 173 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions while rushing twice for two yards in the Atlanta Falcons' 34-10 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday.Making his first start since Week 15 of last season, Cousins understandably had some rust to work through, and he also had the disadvantage of having to operate without No. 1 receiver Drake London (hip). Cousins eventually developed a bit of rhythm as the game went on, but he averaged just 5.6 yards per attempt and focused the overwhelming majority of his attention on Kyle Pitts. Cousins could certainly be better now that he has a game under his belt and with another week of practice -- not to mention with London at his disposal -- but it remains to be seen if he'll have that opportunity in a Week 9 road matchup against the Patriots or whether Penix will be healthy enough to start that game.

Falcons' Kirk Cousins: Starting in place of Penix

Kirk Cousins will start Sunday's game against the Dolphins with Michael Penix (knee) inactive, Tori McElhaney of the Atlanta Falcons' official site reports.Penix came out of last Sunday's defeat in San Francisco with a bone bruise in his knee that limited him in practice Wednesday through Friday and resulted in a questionable tag for Week 8 action. Adam Schefter of ESPN then reported Saturday morning that Cousins likely was going to start for Penix, before reporting later Saturday that Cousins was in line to direct the Falcons offense this weekend. With Penix's lack of availability confirmed, Cousins will earn his first start since Week 15 of last season, but he'll be without top WR Drake London due to a hip injury.

Falcons' Kirk Cousins: Slated to start versus Miami

Kirk Cousins will start Sunday's game against the Dolphins due to Michael Penix (knee) being expected to be sidelined for the contest, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.Penix logged a trio of limited practices during the week and was deemed questionable on Atlanta's final injury report Friday. However, news emerged early Saturday that the second-year quarterback was trending toward sitting out, and that now appears to be confirmed, per Schefter's sources. As a result, Cousins is in line to make his first start of the season. In his only appearance so far in 2025, Cousins completed five of seven pass attempts for 29 yards in mop-up duty against Carolina in Week 3.
