49ers' Frank Gore progressing, Carlos Hyde still out
San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore returned to practice Thursday wearing a non-contact jersey as he continues to progress through the league's concussion protocol, reports the Sacramento Bee. Rookie running back Carlos Hyde remained sidelined with ankle and back injuries. The 49ers host the Chargers on Saturday night. If Gore gets cleared by an independent neurologist and Hyde sits out, Gore could see a heavy workload. If neither plays, the 49ers' top two tailbacks would be Alfonso Smith and newly-signed Phillip Tanner.

TE Gray set with Bills as RB Tanner dispatched
The Buffalo Bills have been awarded tight end MarQueis Gray, who had been placed on waivers by Minnesota. The team has released running back Phillip Tanner to make room for Gray on the roster. Gray has played in just two games this season and caught one pass.

Bills list Week 11 inactives vs. Dolphins
The Buffalo Bills have listed the following players as inactive for Thursday's Week 11 matchup with the Dolphins: running backs Fred Jackson (groin) and Phillip Tanner, cornerback Ron Brooks (groin), wide receiver Marquise Goodwin (ribs), defensive end Jarius Wynn (knee), linebacker Randell Johnson and offensive lineman Cyrus Kouandjio. Jackson, Brooks and Goodwin were all listed as questionable to play, while Wynn had already been ruled out on the team's final injury report. Wide receiver Marcus Easley (knee) is active after being listed as questionable, as is wide receiver Mike Williams, who will give the team another option with Goodwin sidelined.

The Buffalo Bills have listed the following players as inactive for Sunday's Week 8 matchup with the Jets: running back Fred Jackson (groin), wide receivers Marquise Goodwin (hamstring) and Marcus Easley (knee), linebacker Ty Powell (ankle), cornerback Ross Cockrell, running back Phillip Tanner and offensive lineman Cyrus Kouandjio. Jackson and Powell were both already ruled out for the game, while Goodwin was doubtful to play. Easley is inactive after being listed as questionable, but the team's other questionable player, safety Aaron Williams (neck), is active for the game. Wide receiver Sammy Watkins (groin), defensive end Mario Williams (thumb) and cornerback Ron Brooks (groin) are also active after being listed as probable to play against the Jets.

Cowboys dump boatload of players to reach 53-man roster
The Dallas Cowboys have sliced their roster down to 53 with a slew of moves on Saturday. The have released the following offensive players: wide receivers Jamar Newsome, LaRon Byrd and Dezmon Briscoe, guards Stephen Goodin and Uche Nwaneri, running backs Ryan Williams, Phillip Tanner and D.J. Adams, tackle Josh Aladenoye, center Ronald Patrick and tight end Asa Watson. Among the defenders they let go are linemen Kenneth Boatright, Dartwan Bush and Caesar Rayford, cornerback Terrance Mitchell, safety Ryan Smithl and linebackers Dontravis Sapp, Will Smith and Keith Smith. The Cowboys also waived/injured linebacker Orie Lemon and defensive tackle Zach Minter while placing safety Jakar Hamilton and cornerback Orlando Scandrick on the reserve/suspended list.
