A Virginia judge dismissed four misdemeanor domestic violence charges against Derrius Guice on Wednesday after he reached a settlement with his ex-girlfriend, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.Guice was arrested in Loudoun County, Va. last August for his involvement in three separate incidents of alleged assault and battery of his ex-girlfriend that occurred earlier in 2020. Washington released Guice from its roster the same day as his arrest, and the 24-year-old running back subsequently went unsigned after clearing waivers. Though the settlement means Guice won't serve jail time, his future in football remains murky. Even though he had his charges dropped, Guice could still face discipline from the league in connection with the arrest. Additionally, Guice is facing three accusations of sexual assault from his time at LSU; the university has since ended its association with him.

Derrius Guice said Friday that he's healed from the MCL sprain that caused him to spend the final three games of the 2019 season on injured reserve, Kareem Copeland of the Washington Post reports.Due to a trio of knee injuries -- two of which required surgeries --- Guice has only appeared in five contests since being selected by Washington in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. All of his injuries resulted in trips to injured reserve, so it's certainly encouraging that he's managed kick off the offseason healthy. The 22-year-old will now shift his attention toward rehab in order to rebuild strength in his knee and the muscles surrounding it, with the goal of retaining his speed and ability to make quick cuts. Even full participation throughout OTAs and training camp would do little to alleviate concerns about the running back's durability, but Guice will be the favorite to lead Washington's backfield in 2020 if he can just stay healthy.

Guice is a clear favorite to handle the lead backfield role in Washington if he can just stay healthy, coming off a 2019 campaign with 42 carries for 245 yards (5.8 average) and two touchdowns, plus seven catches for 79 yards and another score on nine targets. Granted, he only played five games, and he produced more than half his rushing yards in a single contest -- a Week 13 matchup with Carolina's incompetent run defense. Fellow running backs Chris Thompson and Wendell Smallwood are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents this offseason, while Adrian Peterson and Bryce Love (knee) are under contract for 2020.
