David Montgomery rushed 11 times for 35 yards and a touchdown while catching all four of his targets for 35 yards in Sunday's 20-16 loss to the Buccaneers.Montgomery scored his second one-yard touchdown in as many games in the third quarter, but he was otherwise outplayed by Jahmyr Gibbs, who turned 20 touches into 106 scrimmage yards. While Gibbs gets occasional goal-line opportunities, Montgomery gets most of his value from his short-yardage proficiency, as the former Bears running back has 15 rushing touchdowns in 16 regular-season games since joining the Detroit Lions. Montgomery will try to extend his season-opening touchdown streak in Week 3 against Arizona.

Gibbs has proven to be an explosive force for Detroit in his rookie campaign, and he's gained at least 60 yards on the ground in four straight contests while scoring five times over that span, but Montgomery hasn't exactly faded away -- he's averaging 65.5 rushing yards with two TDs over the same four-game span. While a split backfield isn't typically an ideal situation for fantasy purposes, both Montgomery and Gibbs are performing well enough to be viable options in all formats. The pair will look to remain productive next Saturday in a road contest versus Dallas.
