Giants' Cam Skattebo: Briefly weighed retirement after injury
Cam Skattebo admitted Thursday in an appearance on FanDuel TV's "Up & Adams" that he briefly considered retirement after sustaining a severe right ankle injury in an Oct. 26 loss to the Eagles. "I would say probably a month in [to the rehab process] I was kind of like, 'Do I really want to do this?'" Skattebo said. "But I got to go back and play."Skattebo told Kay Adams that coming out of college, he had determined that if he ever suffered a major injury, he would step away from football. However, after dislocating his right ankle just eight games into his rookie season, Skattebo determined that he still had too much good football left in him to justify an early retirement. Skattebo underwent surgery a day after suffering the injury and has bounced back well, as the New York Giants cleared him to take part in drills during June minicamp and made him available with no restrictions to begin training camp. After carrying four times for 19 yards in the Giants' preseason opener, Skattebo didn't play in either of the final two exhibitions, but he was held out merely as precaution. Skattebo is still likely to have his workload scaled back to some degree to begin the 2026 campaign after averaging 19.5 touches per game from Weeks 2 through 7 last season, but he'll head into the Sept. 13 opener versus the Cowboys as the Giants' clear lead option out of the backfield.

Giants' Cam Skattebo: Listed atop unofficial depth chart
Cam Skattebo is listed as the New York Giants' starting running back on the team's unofficial depth chart for the preseason finale versus the Jets, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.Skattebo seems to have pulled ahead from the pack as the Giants get their plans in place for the final preseason game. The Giants had previously listed Skattebo as the co-starter with Tyrone Tracy earlier in camp. However, now Skattebo sits unchallenged atop the unofficial depth chart while Tracy, Najee Harris and Devin Singletary are on the next line.

Giants' Cam Skattebo: Backfield getting crowded
Cam Skattebo gained more competition for snaps and touches Tuesday when the New York Giants signed Najee Harris, as reported by Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.New York already seemed to be leaning toward a backfield committee with Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary all working with the offensive starters during the team's preseason opener last Saturday, but Harris potentially adds another running back to the mix once he proves he's fully recovered from an Achilles tear. Skattebo remains at the top of the depth chart, but given his own health concerns after his rookie season was cut short by an ankle injury that required surgery, his workload could be scaled back from 20.8 touches per game he averaged in the five weeks before getting hurt.

Giants' Cam Skattebo: Starts preseason game, takes four carries
Cam Skattebo started Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings, taking four carries for 19 yards over the first two drives.Tyrone Tracy lined up with the starters in warmups, but Skattebo got the nod come game time and took two carries for seven yards on the first two snaps. Tracy then had a carry and a target (for no gain) later on the opening drive, which ended when his missed block got QB Jaxson Dart thrown to the turf. Dart returned for the second drive, handing off to Devin Singletary on the first two plays. Skattebo then subbed in for carries of five and seven yards on back-to-back plays before giving way to Tracy (and then Singletary) for the rest of the series Dante Miller and Eric Gray then took over backfield work for the rest of the half. Sharing first-team snaps with two other RBs may not seem encouraging for Skattebo's fantasy value, but he did have the best afternoon of the trio in his first game back from major surgery. He'll likely get a larger share of the workload come Week 1.

Giants' Cam Skattebo: Warming up with second unit
Cam Skattebo is lined up with Jameis Winston and the second-string offense during pregame warmups for Saturday's preseason matchup with Minnesota, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy are listed as co-starters on the New York Giants' initial preseason depth chart, and there's a good chance both end up taking snaps with the starters. Tracy, however, appears in line to get the first crack at Minnesota's defense. Skattebo looks ready to make his first game appearance since suffering a season-ending ankle/leg injury last year. The Giants haven't outright said that he'll play, so there is still some chance that Skattebo that just watches from the sideline in uniform Saturday.

Giants' Cam Skattebo: Listed as co-starter with Tracy
The New York Giants list Cam Skattebo as a co-starter at running back with Tyrone Tracy on their first unofficial depth chart of season that was posted Wednesday, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.Though he worked ahead of Tracy last season before his rookie campaign came to an end when he dislocated his ankle Week 8, Skattebo hasn't yet been anointed as the Giants' No. 1 back heading into 2026. Skattebo was cleared for the start of training camp but has had his workload managed coming off the major injury. The 24-year-old should see his reps increase as camp and the preseason rolls along, and assuming he's able to steer clear of any health-related setbacks, the expectation remains that he'll receive the starting nod out of the backfield Week 1 versus the Cowboys.

Giants' Cam Skattebo: Harbaugh downplays exit from practice
Coach John Harbaugh said Cam Skattebo's early exit from Friday's practice is "nothing serious at all," Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.According to Duggan, Skattebo went down in the middle of Friday's session and appeared to be stretching out his hamstring, after which he didn't mix into drills the rest of the way. Harbaugh also told Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News that Skattebo is merely working his way back from last season's dislocated right ankle. How Skattebo fares the rest of training camp and the preseason will determine his ultimate workload once Week 1 arrives, with Tyrone Tracy and, to a lesser extent, Devin Singletary also on hand for backfield reps.

Giants' Cam Skattebo: Declared ready for camp
New York Giants GM Joe Schoen said Wednesday that Cam Skattebo (ankle) is "good to go" for the start of training camp, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.Skattebo made similar comments a week and a half earlier, telling reporters that he was "perfectly fine" and "ready to go" for training camp. He and Tyrone Tracy both figure to get first-team reps this summer -- with Devin Singletary perhaps mixing in some as well -- but Skattebo remains a clear favorite for the Week 1 starting job. His progress nonetheless needs to be monitored this summer, as he's coming back from a severe injury that included ligament damage around the ankle.

Giants' Cam Skattebo: Says he's ready for camp
Cam Skattebo (ankle) said Sunday that he's "ready to go" for training camp, Patricia Traina of SI.com reports.Skattebo -- who indicated that he is "perfectly fine" after appearing to land awkwardly while doing a backflip during an appearance at Fanatics Fest this past weekend -- said "I feel great" and that "the last two weeks of my training have felt the most normal, it's been excellent." The second-year pro got back on the field for team drills late during mandatory minicamp in June, and it sounds like he'll enter training camp at near 100 percent health from ankle surgery undergone last October. Skattebo and other veterans will report for New York Giants training camp July 28, with rookies kicking things off July 23. Once he's fully cleared, Skattebo is expected to reclaim the lead role in New York's backfield, which also houses Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary.

Giants' Cam Skattebo: Expected for early camp work
Cam Skattebo (ankle) is expected to be ready be a participant early on in training camp, according to coach John Harbaugh, NFL.com reports.Skattebo is bouncing back from surgery to address a dislocated ankle that he suffered Week 8 of last season, but the running back is reportedly on track in terms of his recovery, a notion supported by the fact that he was able to take part in some 11-on-11 drills in a limited fashion during last month's minicamp. Once he's fully cleared for on-field work, Skattebo will be in a position to reestablish himself as the top option in a New York Giants backfield that also includes fellow returnees Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary. The team's first open training camp practice will be held July 30.
