Giants' Eric Gray: No snaps in Week 15

Eric Gray was active but didn't play a snap on offense or special teams in Sunday's 29-21 loss to the Commanders.Since being activated from the reserve/PUP list in Week 12, Gray has suited up for each of the New York Giants' ensuing three games, but Sunday marked the first time that he had failed to receive any playing time. Gray hadn't seen any work out of the backfield but appeared on special teams in both of the previous two contests, bringing back two kickoffs for 41 yards.

Giants' Eric Gray: Activated off IR

The New York Giants activated Eric Gray (knee) from the reserve/PUP list Saturday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.Gray was able to practice in full all week. This activation was the last step in the 26-year-old's ability to suit up for the Giants' Week 12 matchup versus the Lions. The third-year pro will likely see depth running back duties behind both Devin Singletary and Tyrone Tracy, assuming Gray is active.

Giants' Eric Gray: Could return Sunday

Eric Gray (knee) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Lions, Dan Salomone of the New York Giants' official site reports. The third-year pro from Oklahoma practiced in full all week but must still be activated to the Giants' active roster in order to suit up Sunday. If Gray returns in Week 12, he could split some of the Giants' backfield duties with Devin Singletary and Tyrone Tracy.

Giants' Eric Gray: Practice window opens

Interim head coach Mike Kafka confirmed that Eric Gray (knee) will be designated to return from the reserve/PUP list Wednesday, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. The third-year pro from Oklahoma has missed all 11 of the New York Giants' games this season after tearing his MCL in the spring, but it now appears that he's nearing a return. Gray now has 21 days to be added to New York's active roster before reverting to the reserve/PUP list. Once fully healthy, he could see touches in a crowded Giants' backfield, especially with Cam Skattebo (ankle) sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Giants' Eric Gray: Shows little progress in Year 2

Eric Gray rushed 14 times for 31 yards and caught 10 of 11 targets for 82 yards in 17 regular-season games during the 2024 campaign. He also tallied 554 kick-return yards on 21 opportunities while losing two fumbles.Gray played in all 17 games and logged 41 more defensive snaps in 2024 compared to his rookie 2023 campaign, but he got three fewer carries and tallied 17 fewer rushing yards. His 2.2 YPC gave New York little reason to use him as a ball carrier, though Gray did improve mildly on his numbers as a pass catcher. The Oklahoma product's biggest role was as a kick returner, but his ball-security issues led the New York Giants to turn to Ihmir Smith-Marsette as their lead kick returner late in the campaign. Gray will be in the third year of his rookie contract in 2025, and given his lack of production thus far along with Tyrone Tracy's emergence as the team's lead back, there doesn't seem to be much room for Gray to ascend on New York's depth chart.

Giants' Eric Gray: Works far behind Tracy again Week 6

Eric Gray gained 13 yards on three carries in a loss to the Bengals on Sunday.Devin Singletary was inactive for the second straight week due to a groin injury, but that didn't result in more work for Gray. In fact, the second-year back played half as many offensive snaps (13) as he did last week against Seattle and got four fewer touches. Meanwhile, rookie Tyrone Tracy continued to impress with 107 yards from scrimmage and a rushing touchdown while logging a workhorse-like 84 percent of New York's offensive snaps. Gray's modest 13 rushing yards more than doubled his previous season-high mark, which only indicates what a minor part of the New York Giants' ground game he's been this season. It remains to be seen if Singletary will be back Week 7 against the Eagles -- and whether Tracy has done enough to take over the team's lead-back role upon Singletary's return -- but either way, it doesn't appear that Gray is going to have a significant enough workload moving forward to be a factor in the vast majority of fantasy formats.
