Paul Soliai: Will be released by Panthers

Paul Soliai will be released by the Panthers on Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.Soliai signed a two-year, $7 million deal only last year. He was owed a $500,000 roster bonus March 11, so apparently Carolina didn't find the former Pro Bowler worth keeping. Soliai will look to find work as a run-stopper on an NFL roster in the coming months. He recorded only eight combined tackles in 2016 but has a big body to plug up lanes and allow other defenders to make plays, making him a valuable commodity.

Panthers' Paul Soliai: Not a lock to make the team

Paul Soliai is not a lock to make the final 53-man roster, the Carolina Panthers' official site reports.Soliai, a former Pro Bowler, signed with Carolina in the offseason. The Panthers are expected to keep four or five defensive tackles on their active roster this season, with Star Lotulelei, Kawann Short and first-round pick Vernon Butler all listed as locks. That would mean Soliai will be in line to compete with Kyle Love and Chas Alecxih for one or two roster spots. Soliai should be expected to win this battle, but it's not guaranteed.

Quinn: Falcons will move Prince Shembo back to OLB

New Atlanta Falcons coach Dan Quinn met with the media at the Indianapolis scouting combine on Thursday and discussed his plans for the team's defensive players.  The biggest news was that the team plans to move Prince Shembo back to outside linebacker. Shembo was drafted as an outside linebacker, but injuries on the defense required him to move inside.  Shembo had 59 tackles for the Falcons in his rookie season, but he'll likely play more of a role in the pass rush from the outside. He had nine sacks as a senior at Notre Dame while playing OLB.  Quinn also plans to use Tyson Jackson and Paul Soliai on the inside. They split time between defensive tackle and end last season, but Quinn was impressed with their size at the tackle spots. Soliai had 29 tackles and a sack last season. Jackson had 22 tackles.  Quinn said Dezmen Southward, who played exclusively at safety last season, will get a look at the cornerback position as well.  Southward had 23 tackles, one sack and two pass defenses last year.
