Kendre Miller RB | NO
Saints' Kendre Miller: Underwhelming against LAC
Miller took six carries for 15 yards and brought in his only target for nine receiving yards in Sunday's 27-13 preseason loss to the Chargers.
Miller got the start with star running back Alvin Kamara resting as he usually does for exhibition play. The 23-year-old Miller didn't perform particularly well with the increased opportunity, but it was a positive sign to see the running back healthy after suffering a concussion in the second to last game of the 2024 regular season. Veteran backups Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Cam Akers both failed to reach double digits in rushing totals, so the No. 2 job in New Orleans is still Miller's to lose.

Kimani Vidal RB | LAC
Chargers' Kimani Vidal: Struggles on six carries
Vidal rushed six times for 16 yards while failing to bring in his lone target in Sunday's 27-13 preseason win over the Saints.
Vidal got the first crack at touches out of the backfield Sunday with Najee Harris (eye) still sidelined and Omarion Hampton getting rested for the exhibition. The 22-year-old Vidal struggled in the spot start, averaging well under 3.0 yards per carry and wasting a prime opportunity to solidify a roster spot. Vidal will have to show improved play to close out the preseason schedule or risk missing the cut completely when rosters are finalized.

Khalil Herbert RB | NYJ
Colts' Khalil Herbert: Dealing with injury
Coach Shane Steichen said Sunday that Herbert is dealing with an undisclosed injury, James Boyd of The Athletic reports. He was seen with a wrap on his leg, the Indianapolis Star reports.
Herbert rushed seven times for 29 yards and one touchdown in the Colts' preseason opener against the Ravens on Thursday, and it's unclear when he was injured or the severity of the injury. Looking like the Colts' RB4 behind Jonathan Taylor, Tyler Goodson and rookie DJ Giddens, Herbert can't afford to miss much time in his quest for a spot on the 53-man roster.

Alexander Mattison RB | MIA
Dolphins' Alexander Mattison: Managing soreness
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Sunday that Mattison is "doing well" after being forced out of Miami's preseason game against the Bears due to "neck and shoulder soreness," David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
McDaniel confirmed that Mattison currently isn't in the concussion protocol, per Furones. The veteran running back looked capable before leaving the field Sunday, recording three carries for eight yards and a score plus one catch for 21 yards on two targets.

Jabari Small RB | DET
Jabari Small: Cut with injury settlement
The Lions waived Small (undisclosed) with an injury settlement Sunday.
Small will be eligible to sign elsewhere in the league once healthy, whereas if he hadn't reached an injury settlement he'd likely have spent the entire season on IR with Detroit. He spent last year on Tennessee's practice squad.

Kyle Monangai RB | CHI
Bears' Kyle Monangai: Six carries in first NFL game
Monangai rushed six times for 30 yards and wasn't targeted in Sunday's 24-24 preseason tie against the Dolphins. He also had a 22-yard kickoff return.
Monangai was the first running back to log a carry for Chicago with starter D'Andre Swift resting and backup Roschon Johnson (ankle) sidelined. The rookie seventh-round pick out of Rutgers has reportedly had a strong training camp and is in position to make the 53-man roster alongside Swift and Johnson, especially after running back Travis Homer (calf) exited Sunday's game. Monangai will likely see significant usage throughout the preseason, including in Chicago's next game against the Bills on Sunday, Aug. 17.

Ronnie Rivers RB | LAR
Rams' Ronnie Rivers: Expected to miss time
Rams head coach Sean McVay said Sunday that Rivers (ribs) will be out for "a little bit of time," Greg Beacham of the Associated Press reports.
Rivers is nursing a ribs injury sustained during Los Angeles' preseason game against the Cowboys on Saturday. Any significant time missed could negatively impact his chances of securing a depth backfield role behind starting running back Kyren Williams. His next chance to play this preseason will come Saturday, Aug. 16 against the Chargers.

Ollie Gordon II RB | MIA
Dolphins' Ollie Gordon: Outplays team's other RBs on Sunday
Gordon rushed eight times for 33 yards and a touchdown while catching one of three targets for 39 yards in Sunday's 24-24 preseason tie against the Bears.
Gordon's touchdown came on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter. Jaylen Wright and Alexander Mattison (neck) entered the game prior to Gordon and each had a touchdown run as well, so Gordon still has some ground to make up in the competition to back up De'Von Achane, even with Mattison getting hurt Sunday. Gordon, whom the Dolphins selected in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, will look to build on this strong debut in the team's second preseason game against the Lions on Saturday.
-
Jaylen Wright RB | MIA
Dolphins' Jaylen Wright: Mixed results in Sunday's game
Wright rushed nine times for 16 yards and a touchdown while finishing without a target in Sunday's 24-24 preseason tie against the Bears.
Wright got two chances from the 1-yard line on Miami's opening drive but failed to punch either in. He made amends with a seven-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter but still finished with an ugly average of 1.8 yards per carry Sunday. Wright is competing with Alexander Mattison (neck) and Ollie Gordon for the backup role behind De'Von Achane. All three of the contenders for the No. 2 spot scored touchdowns Sunday, though Mattison subsequently exited due to an injury. The competition will continue Saturday in Miami's second preseason game against the Lions.

Kendall Milton RB | CIN
Bengals' Kendall Milton: Not practicing
Milton (undisclosed) did not practice Sunday, Jay Morrison of SI.com reports.
Milton is missing practice due to an undisclosed injury. As an undrafted rookie last year, he spent time on Cincinnati's practice squad and suited up for two regular-season games as a reserve backfield option. He's competing to earn a similar role for 2025.
