  • Jets' Braxton Berrios: Won't play Saturday

Berrios (groin) is ruled out for Saturday's preseason contest against the Giants, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Coach Robert Saleh said he expects Berrios back in action for the Jets' exhibition matchup against the Packers on Aug. 22, so it appears the wideout isn't dealing with too serious an injury. Still, Berrios is competing for a depth role in New York's revamped receiving corps, and missing any amount of time before Week 1 could hurt his chances of making the final roster.

  • Saints' Ty Montgomery: Already back at practice

Montgomery (undisclosed) is practicing Thursday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.

Montgomery was carted off the field Wednesday for undisclosed reasons, but he's clearly avoided any sort of serious injury. The versatile veteran has taken most of his reps as a wideout as of late.

  • Elijah Moore WR | PHI

Jets' Elijah Moore: Getting MRI on quad

Moore will have an MRI on his quad following an early exit from practice Thursday, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports.

Coach Robert Saleh didn't actually rule Moore out for Saturday's preseason opener against the Giants, but the scheduling of an MRI suggests the rookie's injury is serious enough to keep him sidelined for at least a few days. Moore could make it back for the second or third week of the preseason as he makes his case for regular snaps at a crowded position in New York.

  • Dazz Newsome WR | SF

Bears' Dazz Newsome: Looking sharp in practice

Newsome (collarbone) took a short catch for a long gain during Thursday's practice, Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune reports.

The rookie sixth-round pick opened training camp on the PUP list and has been eased into practice, but it looks like he's on track to play this preseason, even if it doesn't happen in Saturday's opener against Miami. Newsome is hoping to win a back-end roster spot and isn't likely to have a significant role on offense early in the year

  • Rashod Bateman WR | BAL

Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Scheduled for surgery

Bateman will have surgery on his groin and won't be back until some point in September, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.

John Harbaugh revealed Wednesday that the rookie would miss multiple weeks, but the Ravens coach didn't mention anything about surgery being a possibility until Thursday morning. The timing makes Bateman seem like a long shot for Week 1, but the Ravens apparently hope to have him back in September, so it's too soon to rule him out of games beyond the preseason. With Marquise Brown (hamstring) and Miles Boykin (hamstring) bothered by less serious injuries, Lamar Jackson is left with newcomer Sammy Watkins as his top wide receiver, flanked by a host of young players that includes 2020 third-round pick Devin Duvernay and 2021 fourth-rounder Tylan Wallace. If/when everyone is healthy, it'll likely be Brown, Watkins and Bateman as the top three.

  • Allen Robinson WR | DET

Bears' Allen Robinson: Limited with hammy

Robinson (hamstring) will return to practice Thursday as a limited participant, Jeff Dickerson of ESPN.com reports.

The wideout was a late scratch from Wednesday's practice, held out at the last second with a minor hamstring injury. Robinson isn't likely to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Dolphins, but he'll apparently take part in the two teams' joint practice Thursday, albeit in a limited capacity.

  • K.J. Osborn WR | TEN

Vikings' K.J. Osborn: Listed as No. 3 receiver

Osborn is listed as the No. 3 receiver on Minnesota's first unofficial depth chart of the preseason.

Osborn has drawn rave reviews in training camp, so this isn't a total surprise. He's listed with Chad Beebe as the Nos. 3 and No. 4 receivers, so there may not be much separation between the two. Dede Westbrook (knee) may ultimately win the No. 3 receiver role when he gains full clearance from the torn ACL he sustained in 2020.

  • Keke Coutee WR | MIA

Texans' Keke Coutee: Behind Conley on depth chart

Coutee is listed as a backup to Chris Conley on the Texans' unofficial depth chart, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The depth chart didn't make any allowances for slot receivers, so Coutee and Anthony Miller are listed at wide receiver and on the second unit. Coutee and Miller are expected to primarily play in the slot, so either one could get ample work in Houston's three-wide formations.

  • Nico Collins WR | HOU

Texans' Nico Collins: At end of depth chart

Collins is listed as the sixth wideout on the Texans' unofficial depth chart, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Perhaps Collins, the Texans' third-round draft pick in 2021, is getting the rookie treatment heading into the first preseason game. He's popped early in camp and seemingly was in the mix to start opposite Brandin Cooks, but that privilege goes to veteran Chris Conley. It's early and changes will occur between now and the regular season, so interested observers should not read too much into Collins' placement on the depth chart.

  • Chris Conley WR | SF

Texans' Chris Conley: Sits atop depth chart

Conley is listed atop the Texans' unofficial depth chart at one wide receiver position, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The Texans had several surprises on the depth chart, but Conley lining opposite Brandin Cooks wasn't one of them. He's been getting reps with starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor during camp and earned his position. The big surprise at wide receiver is Nico Collins -- who was presumed to be competing with Conley -- listed at sixth on the Cooks' branch of the depth chart.
