  • Texans' Sheldon Rankins: Dealing with elbow injury

Rankins (elbow) did not participate in Wednesday's practice.

Rankins may have picked up the injury during the Texans' win over the Chargers in Week 17, when he logged 0.5 sacks. The veteran defensive tackle will have two more chances to practice in at least a limited capacity ahead of Sunday's regular-season finale against the Colts.

  • Kimani Vidal RB | LAC

Chargers' Kimani Vidal: Returns to practice

Vidal (neck) returned to practice Wednesday as a limited participant.

Omarion Hampton (DNP - ankle) and Hassan Haskins (LP - head) are also on the injury report, after Vidal and Haskins missed Saturday's loss to Houston. Health won't be the only factor, as Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh already said QB Justin Herbert won't play this Sunday at Denver. Other starters may also be held out or pulled early.

  • Texans' Aireontae Ersery: Limited in practice Wednesday

Ersery (thumb) was a limited practice participant Wednesday.

Ersery suffered a broken hand Week 16 against Las Vegas and wasn't able to suit up in Saturday's win over the Chargers. However, he has a chance to return to action this Sunday against the Colts with a limited practice session under his belt to begin the week. If Ersery is able to suit up, it'll be a boost to Houston's offensive line, which could be without starting tackle Trent Brown (ankle/knee).

  • Trent Brown OT | HOU

Texans' Trent Brown: Remains sidelined at practice

    Brown (ankle/knee) didn't practice Wednesday.

Brown didn't practice at all last week and missed Saturday's win over the Chargers. He's still not ready to return to practice, so his status for Sunday's regular-season finale against Indianapolis is certainly in question. Blake Fisher and Tytus Howard will likely be Houston's starting tackles Sunday if Brown can't return to action.

  • Chargers' Omarion Hampton: Not practicing

    Hampton (ankle) didn't practice Wednesday.

There was no sign of injury during Saturday's 20-16 loss to the Texans, in which Hampton took 22 touches for 60 yards and a touchdown while playing 83 percent of snaps. Injury or not, Jim Harbaugh's announcement about resting Justin Herbert indicates that Hampton is highly unlikely to get a full workload this week. In fact, it's not clear the rookie will play at all, potentially opening up a starting opportunity for Kimani Vidal (neck), Hassan Haskins (head) or Jaret Patterson.

  • Texans' Derek Stingley: Held out of Wednesday's practice

Stingley (oblique) did not participate in Wednesday's practice.

Stingley has managed to play through an oblique injury for each of the Texans' last two games, and with the AFC South title on the line, the fourth-year corner will likely play against the Colts on Sunday assuming he's cleared to do so, per Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle. Stingley will have two more chances to return to practice and potentially avoid an injury designation heading into Week 18.

  • Texans' Kamari Lassiter: Sits out of Wednesday's practice

Lassiter (ankle) did not practice Wednesday.

Lassiter was diagnosed with a knee injury during the Texans' Week 17 win over the Chargers but was cleared to return before the end of the first half. The injury has since been updated to an ankle issue, which prevented him from participating in the opening practice of Week 18 prep. The second-year cornerback will have two more opportunities to return to practice ahead of the Texans' regular-season finale against the Colts on Sunday.

  • Stefon Diggs WR | NE

Patriots' Stefon Diggs: Situation under league review

An alleged Dec. 2 incident that has led to Diggs facing charges is under review of the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.

Reiss notes that Diggs is facing a felony charge of strangulation and a misdemeanor charge of assault stemming from the alleged incident. According to a statement from the league, Diggs is eligible to play at this time, but he could be considered for placement on the Commissioner Exempt List "following formal charges in the form of an indictment by a grand jury, the filing of charges by a prosecutor, or an arraignment in a criminal court." The Patriots face the Dolphins in their regular-season finale Sunday.

  • Denico Autry DT | HOU

Texans' Denico Autry: DNP due to knee issue Wednesday

Autry (knee) did not practice Wednesday.

Autry missed Houston's first five games this season due to a knee injury and continued to be listed on the injury report with the issue through mid-December, but it's not clear if his current issue is related. Regardless, a DNP to begin Week 18 prep isn't a good sign, but he'll have two more opportunities to return to practice before the Texans hand out injury designations for Sunday's matchup versus Indianapolis. If Autry can't play in that game, Derek Barnett could be in line for more defensive snaps.

  • K.J. Britt LB | MIA

Dolphins' K.J. Britt: Begins Week 18 prep as FP

Britt (groin) practiced fully Wednesday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Britt suffered a groin injury in this past Sunday's win over Tampa Bay, but the issue doesn't appear to be serious. Given that he was able to practice in full Wednesday, it's likely Britt will be healthy enough to suit up for the Dolphins' season finale Sunday versus New England. Britt's playing time has been inconsistent this season, but he could see more defensive snaps than usual Week 18 if Jordyn Brooks (hamstring, DNP on Wednesday) is unable to suit up.
