Monahan scored a goal on five shots and won 20 of 26 faceoffs in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Panthers.
The Blue Jackets honored the life of Johnny Gaudreau, who passed away tragically in August, prior to Tuesday's home opener. Monahan was on the ice for a moving tribute to his long-time friend and teammate, as Columbus started with Gaudreau's left-wing spot vacant and neither team played the puck for 13 seconds after the opening faceoff. Monahan then scored just over midway through the second period, and after getting to his skates, pointed at Gaudreau's banner in the Nationwide Arena rafters. Monahan's off to a strong start in his first year with the Blue Jackets, producing two goals, two assists and 11 shots on net through his first three games with the team.
