McLaughlin was placed on waivers for assignment to AHL Providence on Sunday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
McLaughlin scored a goal in his lone game with Boston last season. The 25-year-old center figures to spend the bulk of the upcoming campaign in the minors as a depth option.
