Kirkland scored a goal and went plus-2 in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Oilers.
The 28-year-old forward has taken a long path to the NHL, entering this season with just nine games of prior experience. Kirkland finally signed his name on a scoresheet with a third-period tally Sunday, earning the first goal and point of his career. He didn't make the Flames' Opening Night roster but joined the team after Kevin Rooney (undisclosed) landed on injured reserve. Kirkland will likely be limited to a fourth-line role as long as he's in the NHL, with his biggest contribution coming in hits -- he has seven through two appearances.
