Cates scored an even-strength goal and added a power-play assist in Monday's 3-2 shootout win over the Maple Leafs.
The 27-year-old has been rejuvenated by the Olympic break. After managing just one lonely assist in the last 11 games before the break, Cates has gotten onto the scoresheet in four straight games since the NHL schedule resumed, collecting two goals and five points during the hot streak, including two power-play helpers.
