Smith was reassigned to AHL Chicago on Saturday, per Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site.
Smith was recalled Friday, but he was a healthy scratch in a 6-3 loss to Florida. Smith has yet to see any action at the NHL level this season. He has three assists in four outings with AHL Chicago in 2024-25.
