Karlstrom was placed on waivers by the Islanders on Sunday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Karlstrom signed a one-way deal with the Islanders over the summer but was unable to land a spot on the team's Opening Night roster. He's made just eight career appearances in the NHL and will likely spend most of this season in the AHL if he clears waivers.
