Mitchell was recalled from AHL Bridgeport on Wednesday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
Mitchell has three points over eight games with Bridgeport this season. He'll likely serve as a spare defenseman until the Islanders get one of their injured blueliners back.
