Malkin (upper body) has been officially placed on injured reserve by the Penguins, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
With the Penguins surging, it's possible they'll make the playoffs so Malkin can return to action, but his regular season is over. The 29-year-old superstar was on a roll prior to being hurt, as he tallied four goals and five assists in eight outings.
