The NHLPA announced Wednesday that Sheahan has retired and will transition into coaching and development.

Sheahan was a first-round pick by the Red Wings in 2010 and appeared in 637 regular-season games between Detroit, Pittsburgh, Florida, Edmonton, Buffalo and Seattle over parts of 12 years in the NHL. He tallied 74 goals, including 12 on the power play, 194 points, 383 hits and 286 blocked shots at the NHL level before heading overseas across the past few seasons.
