Each week during the season, we'll survey the Fantasy Hockey landscape and provide you with a list of players whose Fantasy value has increased or decreased over the course of the past week.
Andrew Cogliano, C, Edmonton The Oilers rookie is maturing pretty fast for the NHL rigors and has helped his team get a little closer to a playoff spot. He already set a record by scoring three consecutive overtime winners and signs are there is more to come for this youngster. Cogliano, who actually has six game winners, has points in seven of the last eight games, scoring seven goals and three assists for a nice production not only for his team but for those who own him in Fantasy leagues. |
Rick DiPietro, G, N.Y. Islanders He has gone from high to low in a one-month period. After winning six straight from Feb. 12-21, DiPietro now has just one win in his last six games from Feb. 23-Mar. 11. He has lost all three games in March allowing four goals or more, including eight against the Lightning. His performances might've been affected by the death of his grandmother. |
Dustin Byfuglien, D, Chicago After going long periods without being able to make a significant contribution, Byfuglien has managed to show some sparks down the stretch for the Blackhawks and Fantasy leagues alike. The 23-year-old has goals in three of his last five games and four of six to take it even a little further. For the season he is at a balanced 16 goals and 15 assists. |
Jeremy Roenick, C, San Jose Let's only go back as far as 20 games in his case. With just one goal and four assists during that span, Roenick's days as an effective Fantasy contributor are far behind him. Not to mention he has been a healthy scratch in quite a few games lately. |
Nigel Dawes, LW, N.Y. Rangers He has quietly been instrumental for the Rangers putting together some good wins recently. Dawes has scored three times and set up five goals in the last eight games, seven of which New York has won. Those are respectable numbers that should also please anyone who has Dawes on their roster. |
Stephane Robidas, D, Dallas A goal (7) and an assist (13) in the last two games has helped the seven-year player match his career-best of 20 points, but that does little for Fantasy purposes. It was the only goal as well as assist, Robidas recorded in the last 10 games. More was projected from Robidas this season, but he hasn't delivered. |
Michel Ouellet, C, Tampa Bay In what's turned into a bad season for the Lightning, Ouellet has been one of the few bright spots. Fantasy owners should be even more pleased with the numbers he's been putting up lately. Ouellet has delivered four goals in as many games and seven over the past nine contests. Also throw in four assists over that stretch and that can count for pretty good scoring. |
Mike Comrie, LW, N.Y. Islanders Where did Comrie's scoring touch disappear to? Just like the Flyers have struggled, so has Comrie in the last 10 games. He managed to pick up a goal in a bad loss at Tampa Bay on Tuesday for his first point in five games. Over the past 10 games, Comrie has a mere three goals. |
Mathieu Garon, G, Edmonton While his wins have not been that pretty to watch, wins are wins any way you can take them. Garon has recorded victories in seven of the last eight games, interestingly enough, all by a one goal margin. He has really been under the radar in Fantasy leagues, but he has been getting the job done for those owners inspired to use him while the wins pile up. |
Matt Carle, D, San Jose For a defenseman owned in about 45 percent of the leagues, Carle has not backed that up statistically on the ice. With just two goals and 11 assists, he has considerably underachieved this season. There is only one assist in his scoresheet in the past 14 games. He has even been left out of the Sharks lineup since the beginning of March. |
