  • Brian Boyle: Officially retired
    By RotoWire

Per Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press, Boyle has joined NHL Network as a studio analyst, indicating he's officially retired from the NHL. Boyle will retire having collected 141 goals, 252 points, 615 PIM and 1,783 hits through 871 career appearances over 14 seasons split between the Kings, Rangers, Lightning, Maple Leafs, Devils, Predators, Panthers and Penguins.

  • Boyle underwent surgery on his left knee Monday and is facing a six-week recovery timeline. Boyle was labeled week-to-week by the team ahead of Game 7 versus the Rangers on Sunday, so his procedure shouldn't come as a surprise. The veteran center made 66 appearances for the Penguins during the regular season this year in which he registered 11 goals, 10 assists and 87 shots despite averaging just 10:47 of ice time. If Boyle wants to extend his NHL career, he should be able to secure a contract during the offseason, possibly with the Penguins.

  • Penguins' Brian Boyle: Week-to-week
    By RotoWire

Boyle (lower body) is week-to-week and will not play in Game 7 against the Rangers on Sunday. Even if the Penguins are able to advance to Round 2, Boyle may not be able to suit up given his new return timeline. The veteran managed a pair of assists across 10:15 of average ice time in the first six games of the series before suffering the injury Friday.

  • Boyle is being evaluated for a lower-body injury after leaving early during Friday's loss to the Rangers, Wes Crosby of NHL.com reports. Boyle left after registering just 1:25 of ice time during the first period. The 37-year-old notched two assists while averaging 12:01 of ice time through the first five games of the series. An update on his status should be available before Game 7 on Sunday.

  • Boyle logged an assist and two blocked shots in Saturday's 7-4 win over the Rangers in Game 3. Boyle set up the second of Evan Rodrigues' pair of goals in the first period after forcing a turnover. This was Boyle's first point in three playoff contests this year, and he's added six blocked shots and four shots on net from a fourth-line role. The 37-year-old had 21 points in 66 regular-season outings, but he's more of a defensive presence than a scoring threat.
