  • Henrik Lundqvist: Announces retirement
    By RotoWire

Lundqvist (heart) is retiring from the NHL. Lundqvist's illustrious career featured everything but a Stanley Cup, but it unfortunately came to a premature end due to a heart condition discovered prior to the start of the 2020-21 campaign. The future Hall-of-Fame goaltender had a 459-310-96 record, 2.43 GAA and .918 save percentage in 887 career NHL appearances, all with the Rangers. He was even better under the bright lights of the postseason, with a 2.30 GAA and .921 save percentage over 130 starts, including a 6-2 record in Game 7s and no more than one goal allowed in any of those six victories.

  • Lundqvist secured a one-year, $1.5 million contract with Washington on Friday, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports. Lundqvist will don another sweater for the first time in his 15-year NHL career. With 459 career wins, King Henrik currently sits second among active goalies behind only Vegas' Marc-Andre Fleury. With the Caps, Lundqvist can at best hope to split time with Ilya Samsonov, who had an excellent debut season in 2019-20. However, if the youngster struggles, Lundqvist figures to immediately jump into a starting role.
