A possible rainstorm has forced the suspension of the French Open semifinal between top-seeded Novak Djokovic and third-seeded Andy Murray.
It did not, however, ruin the momentum of Djokovic, who breezed through the first two sets, 6-3, 6-3. Murray did that by winning the third, 7-5, and breaking even at 3-3 in the fourth before the battle was halted.
The match will be resumed Saturday, though there is no set time. The women's championship between Serena Williams and Lucie Safarova will commence at 9 a.m. eastern time.
The winner of the Djokovic-Murray clash is set to face red-hot Swiss Stanley Wawrinka, who beat Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 6-3, 6-7 (1), 7-6 (3), 6-4, in the other semifinal to advance to his first French Open title match.
No player representing that France has won the title since Yannick Noah achieved the feat in 1983.
Not that the outcome was unexpected after the eighth-seeded Wawrinka swept past legend Roger Federer in three sets in the quarterfinals. But Wawrinka did require plenty of clutch play to advance in a grueling match that took nearly four hours in the 90-degree heat at Roland Garros. He staved off 16 of 17 break points in losing his serve only once.
The eight-seeded Wawrinka blasted 15 aces and hit 60 winners en route to his first French Open final and second Grand Slam title match.
