The latest and greatest four-legged sports star will not rest on his laurels. The first Triple Crown winner in 37 years will continue to race.
That's the word from American Pharoah owner Ahmed Zayat, who has pledged to keep him in training at least through the end of the year. After some well-deserved rest, the 12th horse in history to achieve the ultimate prize could run in the Jim Dandy at Saratoga in upstate New York on Aug. 1 and several other events that month.
"We owe it to the sport to do the right thing," Zayat said. "Money plays an important factor in this game. I've already sold the breeding rights, but it is my genuine desire, as a fan, as someone who loves horses, to race him as long as I possibly can."
For now, however, it's just a matter of enjoying the fruits of victory.
"It's ridiculous what he did," said American Pharoah trainer Bob Baffert. "It was a beautiful moment."
Zayat sold the breeding rights to Coolmore Ashford Stud in Kentucky. The family has claimed it received offers exceeding $20 million, but terms of that deal have yet to be revealed.
