World Cup winner and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry announced that he was walking away from the game on Tuesday after more than 20 years as a professional soccer player.
After playing with the New York Red Bulls of the MLS since 2010, Henry announced plans to return to London to join the Sky Sports network.
Henry, who owns the most career goals for both Arsenal (228) and the French national team (51), lifted the World Cup trophy in 1998. He led France to the World Cup final again in 2006, where they ultimately lost to Italy. Throughout his career he played for Monaco, Juventus, Barcelona, the French national team and finally the Red Bulls, but he’ll always be most-closely associated with Arsenal, where he won two Premier League titles.
Henry had this to say on his Facebook page: “After twenty years in the game I have decided to retire from professional football. …It is now time for a different career path and I am pleased to say that I will be returning to London and joining Sky Sports. I will hopefully share some of the insights, observations and experiences I have learned over the years with you guys. I have had some amazing memories (mostly good) and a wonderful experience. I hope you have enjoyed watching as much as I have enjoyed taking part.”
