The United States Olympic Committee chose Boston as the city that will bid to host the 2024 Olympics and Paralympic Games.
Boston won out over Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C., all of which were considered finalists for the bid. Officials from each city made their pitches to the committee back in December.
The United States has hosted the Olympics a total of eight times, the last coming back in 2002. Los Angeles played host to the Summer Games in 1932 and 1984. The IOC will announce the 2024 host city on Sept. 15, 2017.
Boston mayor Marty Walsh expressed gratitude over being selected to host the games, according to NPR.
