AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The most wonderful time of the golf season is approaching its conclusion as the final holes at Augusta National Golf Club are in the midst of being played as the beauty of April surrounds one of the world's most pristine courses. The 2025 Masters kicked off another star-studded affair earlier this week, and it now concludes with two of the game's biggest starts going head-to-head in a final pairing for the ages.

Rory McIlroy supplanted 18- and 36-hole leader Justin Rose after the third round posting matching 66s during the middle frames to battle back from an even-par start that made even his most arduous supporters consider he had already played himself out of the tournament. McIlroy surged from even par to 12 under across 36 holes, and he has gone 11 under over his last 27 holes entering Sunday.

Holding a 54-hole lead at a major for the sixth time in his career and first since the 2014 PGA Championship, his last major victory. McIlroy has won the last four times he entered Sunday as the solo leader. But again, he has not found himself in such a position even once over the last decade. Augusta National is offering a record 2025 Masters purse of $42 million with an astounding $2.1 million in prize money going to the winner, putting even more on the line beyond a green jacket and potential history in the making.

The setup for Sunday at Augusta National created an atmosphere that will either be filled with euphoria or anguish for McIlroy. After winning four majors early in his career, he has gone without such a victory across 38 straight tries, including 10 trips to Augusta. Sunday also marks 14 years since McIlroy's lone major 54-hole lead failure when he led by four strokes at the 2011 Masters only to shoot his worst-ever round at ANGC, an 8-over 80.

McIlroy pulled four shots ahead of his nearest challenger entering the turn, and a birdie on the 10th put him five clear of the field. Follow along live with 2025 Masters leaderboard coverage of Round 4 from CBS Sports to follow McIlroy through the conclusion of his round.
