Rays starting pitcher Alex Cobb turned in a strong performance Sunday against the Red Sox, but opposing pitcher Clay Buchholz was just that much better in a 3-0 win for Boston. Cobb allowed two runs (one earned) over 6 1/3 innings, but Buchholz was able to toss a complete-game shutout.

Cobb (9-7) allowed seven hits and one walk, while striking out six. He gave up an RBI single to Christian Vazquez with one out in the third inning after Xander Bogaerts advanced to third on a throwing error. Mookie Betts then had a two-out RBI single in the fifth inning to give Boston a 2-0 lead.

Cobb is winless over his last two starts, but he has allowed just three earned runs over that span. He hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in 10 straight starts.

He will be back on the hill Friday against the Orioles. Cobb is 1-1 with a 2.81 ERA in three starts against Baltimore this season.
