There's plenty to watch in Angels camp, but one of the most interesting may be Mark Trumbo's transition to third base.
With a new first baseman and a bevy of DH candidates, the Angels needed someplace to put Trumbo, coming off a his second-place finish in Rookie of the Year voting. The Angels are trying him out at third base, a position he hasn't played as a professional until this season. However, his spring was delayed by a stress fracture in his right foot.
Trumbo played his first spring game at third on Wednesday, but had no balls hit his way. In his second start at third on Sunday, he was finally tested. On the first ball hit his way, Trumbo made a diving catch of Joaquin Arias' liner, ending the second inning. He also handled a high-bouncing grounder in the third.
"I was ready for it. They don't call it the 'hot corner' for nothing," Trumbo told reporters, including the Orange County Register. "I treat it like first base -- expect every play to come your way. You don't get caught off guard that way. That was just a reaction play."
Two plays are hardly enough to make any determination on how Trumbo will fare at third, but it's a good sign -- as was his two-run homer and sac fly in the game against the Giants.
