Athletics starter Sonny Gray put together a very gutsy performance against the Rays on Saturday. The young right-hander went eight innings, allowing three runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out four, but took a no-decision in the 5-4 loss.
All three runs Gray allowed came via the longball on Saturday, as he allowed solo shots to Logan Forsythe, John Jaso and Asdrubal Cabrera. It's the first time in his career that Gray allowed three home runs in a game.
Gray left the game with a 4-3 lead, but the bullpen coughed up the lead with two runs in the ninth inning, wasting his solid outing.
Gray is now 3-2 with a 2.13 ERA over his last nine starts.
