The Blue Jays have claimed pitcher David Herndon off waivers from Philadelphia and designated pitcher Tyson Brummett for assignment, Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com reported Tuesday.

Herndon appeared in five games for Philadelphia this season, recording a 4.70 ERA in 7 2/3 innings. For his career, the 27-yaer-old owns a 3.85 ERA and a 1.81 K/BB in 117 innings of work.

He replaces Brummett on the Blue Jays' 40-man roster. Brummett was claimed just five days ago by Toronto despite having just one major-league game under his belt at age 28. If Brummett passes through waivers, the club will be able to retain him as a minor-league player.
