The Blue Jays are seeking a reliever for a set-up role who has the potential to close, according to CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman.
Relievers that fit that profile include Brian Wilson, Francisco Rodriguez, Matt Lindstrom, Matt Capps, Juan Carlos Oviedo, Jose Valverde, Kyle Farnsworth and Brandon Lyon, according to Heyman.
The 2012 Blue Jays bullpen was led by Casey Janssen, who converted 22 of his 25 save chances while earning a majority of the team's 29 saves. The 31-year-old right-hander underwent surgery to his pitching shoulder this offseason but should be ready for spring training.
The Blue Jays opened last season with right-hander Sergio Santos as the closer, but the 29-year-old threw just five innings with two saves before shoulder soreness sent him to the disabled list. He had surgery to repair his labrum in July, but is ready for spring training.
