Saturday night, Braves starting pitcher Brandon Beachy was forced to leave after just 3 2/3 innings due to a sore right elbow. Sunday morning, the Braves placed him on the 15-day disabled list with "recurring elbow soreness," via Associated Press. Beachy will have an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.

Beachy had some elbow discomfort after his previous outing and the Braves gave him three days of extra rest before Saturday night. And then Saturday night, he saw his velocity dip and reportedly felt his elbow "flare up on back-to-back curveballs." (ajc.com).

As a corresponding move, the Braves have recalled Todd Redmond from Triple-A Gwinnett. Redmond, 27, is an eight-year minor-leaguer who has never pitched in the majors. He is 6-4 with a 3.20 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 13 Triple-A starts.

Beachy is 5-5 with an MLB-best 2.00 ERA. He also has a sparkling 0.96 WHIP and leads the majors with a stingy 5.4 hits allowed per nine innings.

As far as Beachy's rotation spot goes, the Braves announced Sunday afternoon that Jair Jurrjens will get the start Friday. The 26-year-old right hander was an All-Star last season, but started 2012 0-2 with a 9.37 ERA and 2.45 WHIP in four starts. He was then demoted to Triple-A, where he's gone 3-4 with a 5.27 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in nine starts.
