Rays pitcher Brandon Gomes began a rehab assignment Thursday with the Gulf Coast (rookie-level) League Rays, The Tampa Tribune reports.
Gomes threw a scoreless inning in his first appearance since a setback in early June. He is expected to be ready in early August but could be optioned to Triple-A upon his return. He owns a 5.40 ERA in 11 2/3 innings this year.
