The Braves have agreed to terms with outfielder Reed Johnson on a one-year contract plus an option for the 2014 season. The Braves acquired Johnson from the Cubs prior to last season's nonwaiver trade deadline.
According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo, Johnson's deal is worth $1.6 million with another $150,000 in incentives, plus a $1.6 million club option for 2014 with a $150,000 buyout.
After the trade, Johnson batted .270/.305/.320 for Atlanta. For his career, the 35-year-old Johnson owns a slash line of .284/.340/.411 across parts of 10 major-league seasons.
While Johnson's not terribly effective against right-handed pitching, he does boast a career OPS of .828 against the opposite side. He's also capable of manning all three outfield positions. His platoon value plus his defensive flexibility make him a perfectly useful fourth outfielder.
