The Braves recalled outfielder Jose Constanza and optioned pitcher Anthony Varvaro to Triple-A Gwinnett, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Monday.
Constanza played in 42 games for the Braves last season, hitting .303/.339/.385. He has appeared in 12 games with the major league club this season, hitting .250 with a .531 OPS. Although he has mostly played left field (53 games) for Gwinnett this season he has 440 minor league games at center field and could cover all three outfield positions for the Braves.
Varvaro appeared in 12 games for the Braves, allowing a 5.40 ERA in 16.2 innings. He struck out 21 but walked nine and allowed two home runs.
