Los Angeles Dodgers: Buyers
Why: The Dodgers are just 1.5 games off the division lead, and are one of the main contenders for a wild card. They've been able to stay in contention without Matt Kemp, who will begin playing in rehab games on Tuesday.
Who do they need: The offense is incredibly top-heavy. Kemp, Andre Ethier and A.J. Ellis have carried the team. Jerry Hairston Jr. has also exceeded expectations, but the team could still use some help. The Dodgers already attempted to trade for Carlos Lee, and were trying to get Kevin Youkilis before he was dealt to the White Sox.
Who can they deal: The team will probably elect to keep its core together, and will likely get rid of lesser players in the minors, much like the Dodgers attempted in the Carlos Lee deal. Their rotation has been strong, and Chris Capuano or Aaron Harang may be on the move depending on how quickly Ted Lilly recovers from his shoulder injury.
Who is available: As the Dodgers have already shown, they are going to be involved for nearly every offensive player who becomes available. After the Carlos Lee deal fell through, they will likely still be looking for help at both corner infield spots. Once Kemp returns, the team coudl still look to upgrade left field, where Juan Rivera and Bobby Abreu have been underwhelming. The Dodgers have shown a willingness to spend money this season, so they could take on players with hefty contracts.
Verdict: The Dodgers are firmly entrenched in the playoff hunt, and are in dire need of an offensive boost. They've already been aggressive on the market, but things haven't gone their way. They'll get something done even if they have to take on a little more salary.
