The Cardinals have signed Ty Wigginton to a two-year deal worth about $5 million, the club announced Friday.
The 35-year-old Wigginton hit .235/.314/.375 in 360 plate appearances with the Phillies last season. Wigginton saw time at first, third and in left field.
Wigginton will likely play the same role with the Cardinals. He’s not a candidate to receive starts over Allen Craig or David Freese, and the Cardinals already have a strong outfield. While Wigginton does have experience at second base, the last time he saw significant innings at the position was in 2010.
