Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz has landed on the disabled list with plantar fasciitis in his left foot, the club announced Saturday morning. What's worse, an MRI shows a partial tear, and Ruiz is expected to miss four to six weeks.
As a corresponding move, the Phillies have recalled utility player Hector Luna. Brian Schneider and Erik Kratz are the Phillies' two remaining catchers.
Ruiz, 33, was enjoying a personal career year, despite the Phillies being one of MLB's most disappointing teams this season. "Chooch" is hitting .335/.399/.559 with 14 homers, 58 RBI, 47 runs and 28 doubles. He's already set career highs in homers, RBI and total bases and made his first career All-Star Game this season.
